...It's just music, right? Don't I have the same right to say 'Well, I don't like metal, you shouldn't play that?'
No, seriously. I don't really care what music you do or don't like. Just... don't insult me as a result of my music. Don't say about how everyone who listens to it should get punched. If you say 'I don't like that music, it's not my thing', that's fine, it's your opinion. Even for kicks, tell me what music you do like. I love music, k?

I wish that things like this didn't make me feel guilty about my music taste. And I wish I didn't let myself feel guilty about it either.

...I'm going to go eat my nice breakfast now. And possibly watch Pokemon on tv.

[because really, there are far better things to make fun of than a few bands I really like. I am way too defensive.]

Urgh I hate people who say stuff like that. Around here, everyone is like "omg emo sucks, anyone who listens to My Chemical Romance needs to be shot" but If I dare to insult their precious j-rock they go mad at me.

People are far too obsessed about the whole emo bashing thing.

I know. It's just... Can't you let me listen to my music and I'll let you listen to yours D: tbh, I wouldn't care so much if they just said 'your music sucks', it's the implication that I need to be punished for it XD

HOW DARE YOU HATE METAL, IF YOU DONT LIKE METAL YOU'RE NOT A TRUE MUSIC FAN >OO

This attitude irritates me. Its like, if you listen to a certain type of music, you cant be classed as a proper music fan. Like how people say if you like DBZ, you're not a true anime fan.

Just ignore people like that. Their closedminded-ness isnt worth it.

Yeah, I think that's it really.

I'm something of an emo, yet I act more or less the same as I did 6 months ago. Yet somehow it makes me a lower lifeform. XD Yes, some emo kids are annoying, and some look stupid, but hey~ everyone is different, there are annoying metalheads too.

To judge somebody on their musical tastes is idiotic. To insult them over it is just plain pathetic. These people are worthless. Their opinions are not valid. You have no need to listen to them.

Thanks, it just really gets me at times. I'm starting to get overly defensive, because of just how much I see it. Because do people really need 'down with the infidel that is emo!' as a sig on a forum?

Seriously, I happen to think metallers are some of the egotistical tits in the universe at times. I see this proven day by day on Last.fm where they argue about the genre of a particular band... or how every metalcore band in the world stinks etc.

Fuck 'em. If I ever get as bad as to piss someone off completely because I moan about their music taste, please feel free to shoot me. I like metal, but damn, I would somehow like to think I am not completely close-minded about the things I listen to.

Just proves to me, time and again, that the human race is full of morons who have nothing better to do than judge people for their lives. I'm guilty of it, we're all guilty of it, I want to see it change just like you.

I wouldn't care so much if it didn't always become an insult.

I would somehow like to think I am not completely close-minded about the things I listen to.
Metal was just my random example, it's something about anime fans. I like some metal songs, I like some rock, I even like songs that my father listened to when he was younger. It just happens that most of the music I like nowadays is emo/what-everyone-calls-emo-but-the-bands-hate-being-called-it.

Genre wars are dumb. Music is music is music.

It just gets me annoyed when people say things like. I could care less whether they like the music I like at the end of the day. I just get all 'rawr' when I get insulted.

I wouldn't care so much if it didn't always become an insult.

I couldn't agree more. It's unfair to start labelling you as anything, nevermind insulting you purely on music taste. I dread to think how many times I have heard the word's "lame" and "twat" attached to me purely because I have a t-shirt with Metallica or Trivium on it (for example).

It gets absolutely ridiculous when rifts between people can be forged by something as simple as a DIFFERENCE OF OPINION. You have your tastes, I have mine. I am pretty sure we've never been insulting towards one another because of it, I fail to see why other's can't do the same and just get on with life.

Music is only one side of life. Geeze.

I hate some emo music, but I never take the mick out of the person who likes them, just the bands XP

I like the odd bit of emo, mainly MCR (and is Fightstar emo? I say there are screamy)

oh and as insanedeano said Metaller can be very egotisitical, as on Last.fm people tend to slag off bands then comment on how good their are. Prime example on Lordi's last.fm page.

people suck generally anyway ;p

ohohohohohoh, I HATE people who don't try to listen to music from a certain genre, (I make an exception for RnB and British House as they are actually the same bit of boring music everytime and I think most people would agree with me here :P) and automatically go OMG its *insert genre* it must be crap as I heard one other band in the same genre sucked. As that tends to annoy me highly.

damn people

I love music :3

Yes! That's it, haha.
There are some genres I won't go out of my way to listen to, but if someone say 'hey, listen to this', I'll try at least.

You don't annoy me with you making fun of the bands, because I know they can be as silly as anything.

i see where youre coming from, but i could play bass better with my arse than those kiddies in my chemical romance and stuff, and really as a grade 7 standard musician i think im quite a good judge of whose got talent and who hasnt and they really dont.

I'm not so sure it's really about that, though. I mean, music elitism doesn't have any effect on how big an impact a band makes. Perhaps they don't play that well, at the end of the day the reason they make it big is the whole package - the songs as a whole, the words, how it all makes the listener feel, how much they can identify.

Perfect bass playing doesn't really come into it. I mean, to someone who doesn't play music, the bass is just *there*, you know? It does a job.

I guess it's like books where the writing is less than stellar make it to the top of the bestseller list - because the story has heart. I think it should be that way with everything - if you are determined enough and you make people feel, yes you should get to the top of your field. Give me MCR with their vulnerabilities and hearts on their sleeves - and yes, their mistakes - over any cold, well-oiled machine of a band any day.

besides, being an amazing bassist doesn't mean jack shit if you can't play well with band (not that i'm suggesting you can't, btw). Besides, some music just needs basic basslines. It's not exactly prog-rock, so why complicate things needlessly?

Actually, I think that is what I was trying to say originally, only I got lost in like a billion more words and never managed to make that point.

♥! Thanks.

yeah yeah i get that to most people bass lines arent important, but i can actually hear the rest of the music, and emo bands really dont gel smoothly. and sure, you dont want to overcomplicate something, but why be boring when you can do so much more? thats my point, these bands havent got heart or soul, they play what makes money and they sold out. they dont share the same passion, you can never see the spark and when you watch their live performances theres no light in their eyes and you cant see the desire to do their very best at all. i mean i play jazz which is completely different to emo and i give it my all, it wouldnt matter what i was playing, id give it my best go. these bands just dont.

That's exactly what I mean though. I really don't mind if people don't like it - be it not their thing or they think it's shit, that's what they think, and you know, maybe even they're right. It's just people who say things like 'anyone who likes emo music should be shot'. Say 'it's not my think' 'I don't like them, I don't think they're that good'. Just... it's when people make me feel bad about what I like. Like Paws said, take the mick out the bands, not the people.

Some emos are annoying fucks, but because I like the music, doesn't mean I'm one of them.

I think your music taste is pretty lame, but i'd never dislike you or whatever for being into the bands that you are. It's your life, not mine, after all.

Heh :D; I like my lame music, but it's all about each to their own.

Exactly. I only like a small amount of bands and get bashed for it all the time, but i don't really care as i love the stuff i listen to.

Yes Toko people, and well, the anime community for that matter, does suck when it comes to being open about music tastes.

I know @_@;;;

It's bad you knew what I was talking about. XD

Well, I did expect this to happen. XD I was gonna defend you but then it'd go off-topic and stuff which is bad~ but blah, leave them be. I think there's at least one song from every genre that I like. I should be ashamed about how open-minded I am about music. But I'm not.

Yeah, that's more or less the reason I left the thread. I really figured I couldn't be bothered trying to defend myself when I knew what was going to happen.

Why? It's a good thing! Varied music is fun. At the end of the day, imo, it doesn't matter what music you listen to.
...But I can't talk, because it annoyed me anyway XD
